He was commissioned on July 9, 2009, by the Army chief, Gen. Deepak Kapoor, in New Delhi.
 
Mohanlal visited Union Defence Minister AK Antony at his office. “This is one of the most precious moments of my life, and I will do all I can for the good of the nation, in the true spirit of a soldier,” Mohanlal Said.
Kapil Dev and actor Nana Patekar also joined  into the Territorial Army .For the last two years he was in training at Delhi.
