Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is now a Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. He was commissioned on July 9, 2009, by the Army chief, Gen. Deepak Kapoor, in New Delhi.

Mohanlal visited Union Defence Minister AK Antony at his office. “This is one of the most precious moments of my life, and I will do all I can for the good of the nation, in the true spirit of a soldier,” Mohanlal Said.
Kapil Dev and actor Nana Patekar also joined into the Territorial Army .For the last two years he was in training at Delhi.

Mohanlal and Sreenivasan, Dasan and Vijayan of Malayalam movies , join again for T.K. Rajeev Kumar’s Breaking News. The producer of Breaking News is maniyan Pilla Raju.

The story highlights the suicide of farmers due to economic failure. Sreenivasan dons the role of a farmer named Viswan Kundoor. He decides to commit suicide with his family and declares the decision in public and keeps a board in front of his house regarding his decision to suicide due to bankruptcy. All the meadia rush to him. They reach to cover the incident. There starts the Breaking News. Mohanlal dons the role of a journalist who comes to discuss the issue for the channel.

The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Venu and Rajeev Kumar. Both are working with Asianet news Channel. Ravi Varman will wield the camera. Playback singer Madhu Balakrishnan and VJ of Kairali TV Deepa are also appearing in important roles.

‘Orupennum Randanum’, a film based on four short stories of renowned novelist Thakazhi, produced and directed by famous film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, was adjudged the best feature film in the Kerala State Film awards 2008. Adoor Gopalakrishnan also won the best director and script writer awards for the same film . Lal got the best actor award for his role as a policeman in ‘Thalapavu‘, a film based on naxalites and Priyanka was selected for best actress for her role in ‘Vilapangalkapuram’,. Aryadan Shoukat was selected as best story writer for his effort in ‘Vilapangalkapuram‘. Shanker Mahadevan was selected as best playback singer for his song in ‘Madambi’, while Manjeri got the best playback singer (female) award. Best lyricist was O N V Kurup and best music director M Jayachandran for his work in ‘Madambi.’ State Minister for Education and Culture M A Baby announced the awards at a press meet here today along with Jury Chairman Girish Kasaravalli. A total of 27 films were considered for the awards. The best film award carries a prize money of Rs two lakh while the best director will get Rs one lakh and a citation. Best playback singer (Femala):Manjari ,Vilapangalkappuram Best playback singer (Male): Shankar Mahadevan, Madampi Best music director: M Jayachandran ,Madampi Best lyricist :ONV Kurup , Gulmohar Best child artist: Nivedha Thomas, Veruthe Oru Bharya Best polpular film:Innathe Chintha Vishayam Special award for comedy,implemented this year, goes to Mamukkoya for Innathe Chintha Vishayam. No award has been declared for best children’s film and short film due to the absence of quality films. Only one film made an entry in the documentary section which was not considered for the award.

Mammootty dont have any hard feelings over New York airport delay

Malayalam actor Mammootty says he has no ill-feelings towards immigration officials at the JFK Airport in New York for delaying his clearance as they were just doing their job.

“It became news here because it was me and do you know there were 30 others whose clearance was delayed because the officials were checking their papers too. I had no issues at all and they treated me properly and I have nothing against them,” said Mammootty, who returned to the state on Saturday after a nearly month-long visit to the US.

The veteran actor’s exit from the airport last month was delayed because his name in his passport appears as Mohammad Kutty Ismail.

“I said who I am and when I told them that my website reveals everything, they were convinced after they checked it,” Mammootty told IANS.

He said he was in the US as part of a fund-raising campaign for his close friend, attorney Stanley Kalathara, who is contesting the election for the New York City Council from District 25, which includes Jackson Heights and Corona.

Mammootty added that his trip went off well.

“The final election there takes place in September and ahead of that there are other programmes and I chipped in my bit for my friend,” he explained.

The superstar, who was away for a month, got busy with work as soon as he arrived here and is now dubbing for his latest film “Daddy Cool”.

“My next film Patanthil Bhootham is being released next month and will be followed by Loud Speaker directed by Jayaraj,” said Mammootty.

Mammootty and Jayaraj are teaming up for Loud Speaker after the blockbuster Johnny Walker released 17 years back.

In the inaugural ceremony Mohanlal said there is only one complete actor in the Malayalam film industry. Mohanlal says that it is none other than Jagathy Sreekumar.
