Azheekode’s criticism cultureless, says VS

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today termed as ‘cultureless’ on the criticisms levelled by Sukumar Azhikode against the former.

VS said that he saw the allegations raised against him in the Mathrubhumi weekly. He said, “I’ve no words to express my feelings. This was not expected from a person like him.”

In the interview carried in the new edition of the Mathrubhumi weekly, Azhikode turned against VS for his laughter soon after the results were declared.

Referring to previous incidents, VS said anyone can criticize me. Criticisms are raised according to their culture, VS said while talking to reporters after the weekly cabinet meet.

VS today rebutted a charge by his rivals that he had tried to split the CPI (M) after its state secretariat’s bid to deny him a ticket to contest the 2006 Assembly polls.

“You have reported that some one (in the party state committee) has made this allegation. But those whose names have been mentioned in this context have denied it,” Achuthanandan, a senior Marxist leader, told reporters.

He was responding to queries on the charge by the CPI-M state committee member C D Dinesh Mani that Achuthanandan and some other leaders had met at the house of former Rajya Sabha member K Chandran Pillai in Kochi to discuss plans to float a new party after the state secretariat controlled by his arch foe Pinarayi Vijayan decided to keep him off the elections.

The decision, however, was later revoked at the intervention of the politburo, paving way for Achuthanandan to contest and win the polls to become the Chief Minister.

Achuthanandan recalled that Chandran Pillai himself had rejected this charge.

On reports that the Vijayan faction was likely to bring Dinesh Mani’s allegation to the party politburo’s attention, Achuthanandan said, “Let us see what will happen.”

Monsoon reaches Kerala one week advance

The south-west monsoon, which accounts for four-fifths of the country’s annual rains, reached Kerala yesterday one week before of its normal date, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The monsoon has hit Kerala coast,” the spokesman of IMD, Mr BP Yadav, said, adding that it was expected to mansoon-kerala-rainadvance further in the next few days in Kerala and the northeastern parts of the country.
The usual date for the four-month monsoon season is first of June. The early onset would improve the prospects for early planting of kharif crops.
In its forecast for the next 48 hours under current conditions, the IMD said the monsoon is likely to further advance over some more parts of central and north Bay of Bengal, northeastern states and Gangetic West Bengal. The IMD is keeping a close watch on the low-pressure area currently lying over east-central Bay of Bengal that is expected to intensify into a cyclone. In such a case, the monsoon may play a disappearing act over peninsular India as the cyclone would suck away moisture from over the region and weaken the monsoon system.

Mammootty dont have any hard feelings over New York airport delay

Malayalam actor Mammootty says he has no ill-feelings towards immigration officials at the JFK Airport in New York for delaying his clearance as they were just doing their job.

“It became news here because it was me and do you know there were 30 others whose clearance was delayed because the officials were checking their papers too. I had no issues at all and they treated me properly and I have nothing against them,” said Mammootty, who returned to the state on Saturday after a nearly month-long visit to the US.

The veteran actor’s exit from the airport last month was delayed because his name in his passport appears as Mohammad Kutty Ismail.

“I said who I am and when I told them that my website reveals everything, they were convinced after they checked it,” Mammootty told IANS.

He said he was in the US as part of a fund-raising campaign for his close friend, attorney Stanley Kalathara, who is contesting the election for the New York City Council from District 25, which includes Jackson Heights and Corona.

Mammootty added that his trip went off well.

“The final election there takes place in September and ahead of that there are other programmes and I chipped in my bit for my friend,” he explained.

The superstar, who was away for a month, got busy with work as soon as he arrived here and is now dubbing for his latest film “Daddy Cool”.

“My next film Patanthil Bhootham is being released next month and will be followed by Loud Speaker directed by Jayaraj,” said Mammootty.

Mammootty and Jayaraj are teaming up for Loud Speaker after the blockbuster Johnny Walker released 17 years back.
